I grew up in Northern California, where the light and color had a tremendous influence on my work. My first drawings were of flowers and I still enjoy drawing and painting imaginary ones today.

What interests me about flowers are their colors, their petals and centers, and the fact that each one is so different from the next. I paint with acrylics on canvas, and my other subjects include still lifes, landscapes and portraits.

I studied painting at the University of California, Santa Cruz. After graduating, I moved to New York City where I have lived and painted for more than 20 years. I continued my studies in drawing and painting at the New York Studio School in Greenwich Village, where my teachers included Robert Storr.

My recent watercolors can be seen and purchased at Jeannie Freilich Contemporary,

I think that art should be enjoyable to look at and take the viewer on a visual journey. The colors, shapes and subjects in my paintings are meant to bring joy to the viewer.

"If you take a flower in your hand and really look at it it's your world for the moment." - Georgia O'Keeffe
